Playstation 3 owners are again having issues connecting to the PlaystationNetwork. This time there is no blame for or other hackers. Sony Social Media Manager, Jeff Rubenstein said the “network is scheduled to undergo maintenance today, from about 8am until approximately 5pm in Los Angeles. During this time, registration and Account Management will be inaccessible, including the password reset process. While some users may experience difficulty signing in to PSN, the majority of consumers will be able to play online as well as sign in to external sites that require PSN authentication.”
He also stated that contrary to rumors, the Playstation store will not be back up today. Some websites were citing an alleged internal memo stating the Playstation Store would be live on May 24th. According to Jeff Rubenstein, the store would be operational by the May 31st deadline Kazuo Hirai promised, a little over a week ago. It is very unlikely that the “Welcome Back” gift would be available prior to the PlaystationStore reopening.
This maintenance comes at a poor time for PS3 owners, with Treyarch offering a double experience weekend, on continuing through today. The Killzone Double XP weekend that ran this past weekend was already completed before the maintenance period began. Publishers can’t have the Store up soon enough, as they are not eager to share the massive losses Sony is reporting due to the Playstation Networkoutage.
