Ubisoft gets sexy at E3 2012

Ubisoft went to the old L.A. Theater in the downtown Jewelry District on Monday, to privately showcase their offerings for E3.  The opulent historical setting was the perfect place to showcase the historical fiction of Assassin’s Creed but, that wasn’t what they led off with.  No doubt in an effort to get everyone paying attention, Ubisoft led off with a mature rated introduction to Far Cry 3.  A highly sexualized voodoo ritual kicked off the violent psychedelic preview that was reminiscent of some True Blood episodes.

Microsoft once again, gave the keynote to kick off the E3 Expo and therefore beat Ubisoft to the punch in showing Splinter Cell: Blacklist but, Ubisoft was able to flesh out some of the details in their own showcase.  The Splinter Cell game will benefit from some of the better mechanics found in the recently released Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.  The improved marking system will make for some dynamic stealth action.

Assassin’s Creed is currently Ubisoft’s hottest franchise and they’ve finally turned the page on Ezio with a new time period and hero.  Connor is the latest in the Assassin line and his adventures take place before, during and after the U.S. Revolutionary War.  With Brotherhood, Ubisoft introduced some new forms of gameplay and now, Assassin’s Creed 3 will introduce period sea battles.  There is no word on the alternate storyline of the assassin descendant, Desmond.

Apparently, Microsoft isn’t the only company that can dig up celebrities and while they had Usher to promote Dance Central, Ubisoft opted for Flo Rida along with dancers to perform “Good Feeling” to plug the same game.  Some video of the Wii U exclusive, Zombi U was also shown, along with Avengers: Battle for Earth.  An interesting gameplay demo of Watch Dogs, a near future, cyber sandbox adventure that utilizes hacking, closed out the show for Ubisoft.
