Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked set to be first 3DS RPG

Atlus games, on the heels of the RPG of the summer and JRPG of the year, Catherine is looking to put the first RPG on the now reasonably priced Nintendo 3DS.  True, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is an enhanced version of the 2009 DS game but, for S.M.T. fans or 3DS owners jones-ing for a 3D RPG, this game is certainly worth buying.   Shin Megami games share a lot in spirit with Catherine as well.  Besides both being published by the Los Angeles based Atlus, members of the Shin Megami Tensei development team worked on the Catherine game and even put a Vincent cameo into Persona 3 Portable.

The original Devil Survivor put gamers in Tokyo, in a full lockdown due to the government’s swift and coldblooded response to a surprise demon invasion.  While you and your friends must solve the nature of the interdimensional rift through which the horrific creatures are entering your world, saving the world is not your highest priority; staying alive, on the other hand, is.  Expanded and enhanced, Devil Survivor Overclocked for the Nintendo 3DS builds upon the game’s original release with the addition of voice acting for the entirety of the game’s memorable narrative.  Players will also be treated with a special eighth chapter that serves as a rousing epilogue for fans, beautifully remastered hand drawn artwork and character portraits, and more.

Devil Survivor for the most part, is a turn-based tactical role-playing game. In combat, the player takes turns with the computer opponents to defeat enemies and satisfy certain mission objectives. The player controls up to four squads, led by human characters with summoned demons as their supporting units.  Demons learn new abilities by leveling up, training, or as a result of fusion, where abilities are inherited from one of the two demons used in the fusion. In addition to demon fusion, players can acquire new demons, up to 24 in total, by attempting to win demon auctions using the macca collected in battle. SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked will be available in local game stores for the Nintendo 3DS on August 23rd.
