BradyGames Final Fantasy X/ X-2 HD Remaster Official Strategy Guide Review

ShowCover“Final Fantasy X” made its debut on Sony’s Playstation 2 system, way back in 2001. It was followed up two years later with the first ever direct sequel to “Final Fantasy” game with “Final Fantasy X-2.”  Both games achieved commercial success as exclusives to Sony’s universally popular PS2. Now, nearing the end of the Playstation 3’s life cycle, Square Enix has released a high definition, remastered edition of both games.  At over a hundred hours of gameplay, some players may need some help.  That where BradyGames comes in.  While there are certainly copies of the original guides floating around, it is the previously unreleased in North America, International versions that have been remastered in the collection.

The BradyGames “Final Fantasy X/ X-2 HD Remaster Official Strategy Guide” covers both the Playstation 3 and Vita versions of the game. The book dedicates the first 165 pages to the more linear journey of Tidus and Yuna to face Sin, in “Final Fantasy X.”  “Final Fantasy X International” adds an advanced sphere grid option, new optional bosses and new abilities, which are all covered in the new guide.  The other 202 pages are dedicated to the more open world “Final Fantasy X-2,” with its side quests, optional bosses, dungeons and mini-games. The International version of “X-2” also includes expanded “dresspheres” and a “Pokémon”-like creature system, which is covered in the new guide.

While, the “Final Fantasy X/ X-2 HD Remaster Official Strategy Guide” does contain all of the content from the original guides, some of the images did have to be shrunk down, to get the page count to a manageable number.  That being said, the book does contain a comprehensive walkthrough for all versions of the games and useable maps.  All of side quests and mini-games are covered along with “X-2’s” “Creature Creator.” You can spend quite a while with these two classic games, and while you might not be interested in the walkthrough, the book can serve as a useful reference guide.
