Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia Review

Capcom 30th Character EncyclopediaA look around the International Comic Con or Anime Expo in Los Angeles makes it pretty evident that Capcom has some beloved characters.  Along with Nintendo and RPG icon Square Enix, Capcom’s characters are as memorable as they are varied.  Established in 1983, Capcom is one of the world’s most well-known video game publishers and is best known for creating franchises like “Mega Man,” “Resident Evil,” and “Street Fighter,” among others.  Marking the video game company’s 30 year anniversary, they have partnered with DK Books and BradyGames to release the “Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia.”

Offered in a 207 page hardback book, the “Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia” contains facts, statistics, and historical information, for over 200 characters.  From Jill Valentine of “Resident Evil” and Morrigan Aesland of “Darkstalkers” fame and even lesser characters like Roy from “Rival Schools: United by Fate” have their own page.  Each page offers one or two images along with some insight and background for the characters and video game series, from which they come. Each page also includes a “Data” badge with information on the character’s first appearance and most recent appearance, along with some additional context, which varies for each.

As anyone who knows anything about video games knows, most of these characters could probably have their own books and many of the more iconic series do have their own tomes.  Though it is a hardback offering, “The Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia” is a budget friendly purchase.  With the holidays fast approaching, this great reference book for Capcom’s vast character database, would make a great gift for the gamer in your life.
